Wales netball partnership

Wales Netball Forms Partnership with Play Netball

The 2023/2024 season marked a period of significant growth for netball in Wales. With record-high membership numbers, an increase in qualified umpires, and passionate crowds filling the stands, the sport continues to thrive across the country.

Looking ahead to the 2024/2025 season, Wales Netball has partnered with Play Netball to further expand grassroots opportunities. Together, they’ll introduce new social netball leagues in Wales, designed for women of all ages and abilities. This collaboration aims to make netball more accessible, enjoyable, and empowering, ensuring everyone has the chance to get involved and experience the joy of the game.

How are these Wales Netball affiliated leagues different to our current social leagues?

In practice, there’s very little difference! The leagues will follow the same familiar format, with no changes to match fees, season lengths, or your main point of contact for league-related queries.

The key difference is that participants in a Wales Netball affiliated league will need to hold or register for a membership with Wales Netball. There are two types of memberships available, and all the details on how to set up your membership will be included in your confirmation email when signing up for an affiliated league.

“We’re excited to be partnering with Play Netball, as they grow social leagues across Wales. Their mission to make netball fun, friendly and suitable for all abilities, aligns with our aim to make netball bigger than before! To ensure our sport has a place for everyone at all stages of life, social leagues are key!”

Keira Edwards, Head of Participation for Wales Netball

What are the benefits to playing in a Wales Netball affiliated league?

Play Netball is committed to delivering fun, social, and inclusive netball leagues for women of all ages and abilities. These Wales Netball affiliated leagues not only uphold that promise but also provide an exciting opportunity for players in more rural areas of North Wales to enjoy regular weekly netball matches, fostering connection, community, and a love for the game.

An added advantage of joining an affiliated league is gaining access to the exclusive benefits of Wales Netball membership, including discounted rates on coaching and umpiring courses and exclusive access to discounts with retailers like Netball UK.

When and where are these new leagues starting?

Our first Wales Netball affiliated league kicks off in Llanrwst on the 11th February. Matches will take place every Tuesday from 7–9pm at Dyffryn Conwy Leisure Centre in their indoor sports hall. Keep an eye on our social media channels for more location announcements coming in early 2025!
