Play Netball After School Clubs Launch
Play Netball is excited to announce the launch of ‘Play Netball Juniors’.
Just like our women’s leagues, this is a fantastic opportunity for boys and girls of all abilities to immerse themselves in a fun, social, inclusive, and safe netball environment alongside other like-minded children. Children in school years 1 to 11 can join weekly, coach-led after school sessions during term-time. These sessions are designed to help them develop agility, balance, and coordination while having fun in a welcoming team environment.
Our Play Netball Juniors programme is divided into age-appropriate groups: Primary-aged children (KS1, KS2) and Secondary-aged children (KS3, KS4). This allows our coaches to tailor sessions to each age group’s physical and skill development, ensuring every child progresses at their own pace, whether they’re beginners or have more netball experience.
Building confidence, skills and teamwork
Playing in a team has far-reaching personal, social, and emotional benefits. Our programme is designed to encourage children to explore these through fun and engaging activities. Our expert coaches focus on improving not only the physical skills needed for netball but also promoting the social side of the sport – helping children feel part of a team and giving them a sense of belonging.
By nurturing positive experiences of sport at a young age, we aim to help children carry these habits and enthusiasm for physical activity into adulthood, empowering them to stay active and take on new challenges in the future, whether that’s netball or any other sport.
Tailored coaching for every age group
Whether for primary or secondary school-aged children, Play Netball Juniors offers a well-rounded experience that focuses on both skill development and match play. Each weekly session is carefully planned by our coaches, allowing for flexibility to adapt based on the children’s progress and ability. While match play is an important part of each session, the emphasis will be on skill progression, confidence-building, and having fun. Key areas of development include:
- Primary Schools (KS1 & KS2)
Our dedicated Primary School netball coaches specialise in teaching core physical, social, and tactical skills suitable for children in years 1-6. Sessions are designed to be accessible for beginners as well as those with some netball experience. Children will develop key skills such as passing, catching, ball control, attacking and defensive skills and understanding the rules, while building confidence and teamwork in a supportive environment.
- Secondary Schools (KS3 & KS4)
Older students will have the chance to refine their skills with more advanced tactics and game strategies. Our experienced Secondary School coaches will work with each student to enhance their understanding of the game, improve their passing, attacking, and defending techniques, and apply these skills during match play. Leadership opportunities through co-umpiring and officiating roles will also be encouraged.
Safety and expertise
Safety is at the forefront of everything we do at Play Netball and Play Netball Juniors. Our coaches are not only passionate about the sport but also fully qualified, having completed DBS checks and safeguarding training. This ensures children are in the best hands, receiving expert guidance and support as they develop their skills.
